The Angry Toy

FICTION BY STEPHEN F.

Come my friend, I will tell you a story that happened to me a long time ago. It is a story about a toy soldier, a stuffed unicorn, and world domination.

It started back at a toy store I worked for. There were two toys that were not really toys. They were the toy soldier and a stuffed unicorn and the reason they were different is they had magical powers. There was a toy soldier that always was sad when people came and left again. He wanted to be picked. The stuffed unicorn was also never chosen and he talked to me during the lonely days. He was a good toy. The toy soldier, on the other hand, was very evil.
One day the toy soldier got chosen.

I was not there when he got sold. As soon as he got to his new home he used his magical power. He then grew Huge. As soon as I found out the toy soldier was gone, I let the stuffed unicorn to go to stop him. The stuffed unicorn had another kind of magic, to turn small.

The toy soldier told himself that he wanted world domination. He heard someone say, “No you won’t.” He turned around and saw the unicorn. He laughed and said, “You can do nothing to stop me.” “Nice try,” said the unicorn.

They started fighting to see which one could overpower each other. The first thing the unicorn did was to lower its head and charged at the toy soldier and the first thing the toy soldier tried to do was crush the unicorn.

The unicorn attacked the toy soldier so much that it fell over and with one touch of the magical horn the soldier turned back to its original size. With another touch of the magical horn the toy soldier was tied up and the unicorn brought him back to me.

The one thing I did was to burn him to ashes and put a stop his evil ways.

That is my story that I have told you. I hope you pass it along and the story will go on.

Incredibles Fun Day

This week I am writing about the Incredibles team's 4th six weeks fun day.

I got to interview Mrs. Janzen upstairs in her room where kids got the opportunity to play the game “Rock Band.”

Did you have fun?
Mrs. Janzen: “YEAH!!!! I had a blast!”

Do you love interacting with students?

Mrs. Janzen: “Yes , it is the best part of my job. To watch a student work hard to achieve something.”

What do you like about interacting with students?

Mrs. Janzen: “To watch a student work hard to achieve something. Just to see the different personalities I get to work with.”

What was your favorite part of fun day?

Mrs. Janzen: “Singing to Alex L.'s Wii and listien to Brandon F. play drums.”

Did you meet students you did not know?

Mrs. Janzen: “Yeah I did not know Brandon F. at all.”

And that concludes my interview with Mrs. Janzen about fun day.

Mrs. Emswiler's Car

BY KEYANA S.

Do you ever wonder about that little red car out in the front of the school? The one with the license plate that says "IM 4 UNC"?

Well, that car belongs to our very own Mrs. Emswiler. The reason she has that license plate is because she attended the University of North Carolina, and the reason her car is red now (this is for you, Mrs. Fawley) she had a choice between a red and a navy blue one, just like the Duke colors. Well, she chose the red one because she didn't want to have a Duke blue car.

So Mrs. Emswiler does do a good thing in choosing things, like her red car instead of a Duke blue one.

Helping Out Haiti

BY DAVID F.

Over the next few weeks, JFH will be collecting money to send to Haiti.

Some of the activities that will help earn money include donations and raffle prizes, and the Adventurers team will be reading to earn money for the people.

The earthquake that hit Haiti was measured to be 7.0. The death toll is nearing 200,000 and climbing. Hundreds of people are being forced to live on the streets.

The whole U.S.A. is doing all they can to help. The U.S. is sending military support, doctors, and food. So to help out, we are earning as much money as we can.

Show your Hawk Spirit and help Haiti. You could win cool prizes like an iPod Touch, gift cards, and more.

JFH Wrestling Season to Begin

BY KEYANA S.

The J. Frank Hillyard's wrestling season is about to begin. The team is being coached by Mr. D.J. Miller (at right). The wrestling season has not been formally started yet, but it will when we have our wrestlers.

Coach Miller is looking forward to having his eighth graders step it up. He has high expectations.

I will post further information about who the wrestlers are at that time.

JFH Chorus Concert

On Dec 16 J. Frank Hillyard's Chorus did an outstanding job.

The sixth grade choir sang "Mistletoe" and "Once Upon a December" from the movie "Anastasia." The 7th and 8th concert choirs sang "Christmas in About Three Minutes," and "Somewhere in My Memory" from the movie "Home Alone." The Advanced Choir sang "One Child" and "One Candle."

All the groups together sang "When Christmas Comes to Town," "Here We Come A Caroling," "Over the River," and "Coming Home for Christmas" with a miraculous solo sung by Mary Smith.

I myself have to say that all of the choirs have come along way from where we started in August, and that if it wasn't for Ms. Katlyn Whetzel and her cat-like reflex, Mrs. Sutton would have gotten hit with a falling microphone.

Anyway it was a good and wonderful concert.
